...the first glance to see how many pages there are, the second to see how it ends, the breathless first reading, the slow lingering over each phrase and each word, the taking possession, the absorbing of them one by one, and finally the choosing of the one that will be carried in one's thoughts all day... -- Edith Wharton

Restoring

I've held off as long as I can, but the library, incomprehensibly, wants this beautiful book back. Sometimes it's words, and sometimes it's reading a picture, than restores a little bit of ourselves to ourselves. I am not consistently orderly enough for a kitchen like this, but a person who loves cookbooks and food writing could easily imagine herself studying a new recipe -- maybe from Kitchen Essays? -- here.

Image from Restoring a House in the City, by Ingrid Abramovitch. Dewey Decimal number 728.312, just so I can easily find it again. :)

I'm jealous. Why doesn't my kitchen EVER look this good? Maybe because I don't have a photo stylist??

I'm putting this book on hold at the library NOW. Then I'm going to clean my kitchen and buy flowers.

Oh, such a lovely picture...what an atmosphere it evokes! Silly libraries, they always want their books back. Drives me crazy!

I'll keep this particular one in mind, though, as I know my mother and aunt would love this as much as you/I do.

p.s. I have Remarkable Creatures waiting for me, too. We'll have to talk when we finish it; I've only heard outstanding things. For what that's worth. ;)
